An oft popular destination in the hills, Kasauli evokes a riot of emotions, ranging from resplendent to pensive to the fuzzy feeling that engulfs one as one tucks inside a cosy blanket on a cold winter night. That is Kasauli for me, a magic potion that spurs your soul with just the right dose of warmth, sunshine and quintessential cheer.
What’s more, the charm of visiting this hill station is retained every time depending on what I make of the experience. Recollecting the memories of my visit, back in 2018, from the hill-top expanse of Holiday Home (army guest house) to the peace and quiet of the trails nearby, there is always a facet to explore. The Gilbert Trail, Kasauli Club, and Khushwant Singh’s summer retreat (Raj Villa), are some must-find-and-visit for the uninitiated.
This time around we chose to rummage through the woods, wandering our way through tranquil trails lined with pine trees while being besotted at the Welcome Heritage’s Glenview Resort, Kasauli. Situated near the Lower Mall road, the idyllic location, an expansive area, & a comfortable stay makes for its many captivating attractions. About 45 minute drive from Chandigarh, we arrived at the main porch in the blink of an eye.
After being served welcome drinks, we headed to our impressive rooms, a luxury stay & a family suite. The spacious rooms, and a balcony with the most splendid views was a treat for the eyes. After a quick round of hot cuppa, we went to explore the property – the sky deck, patio, poolside area, spa and the restaurant/bar. Soaking in the winter sun in the spacious ‘Sky Deck’ overlooking the mountains was the best I could make of breezy afternoons.
A stomach full of wholesome food, relishing the mutton curry over beer burps at the in-house ‘Flavours’ restaurant, we escaped into our shells for a short nap. The evening was spent making merry, chit-chatting with knick-knacks and toasting to good times!
There is something refreshing about wee morning hours in the hills – the fresh dew drops, spectacular views infuse zestfulness that remains unmatched. Our morning trail walk was a variation between rustic abodes to densely lined pines & chirping birds for company. I was careful to pick a stick in my hand, ready to lash back at any uninvited, surprise visitors on the way, a few we did spot ‘monkey’ing around but rather harmless.
Clocking in 10-20k steps a day on my fitbit was easy, thereafter diving straight for a hearty meal. My body clock could get used to that. Breakfast at the patio was a flavourful mix of fruits, bacon, eggs, sautéed veggies, chicken in cream sauce, and breads served to perfection. To goad our glutenous selves into action, the games room provided the much needed momentum and so rounds of pool, table tennis, carom unleashed our competitive sides.
Soaking in the winter sun at the deck, exploring the quaint trails around, while occasionally surprising and spoiling ourselves silly at the hidden spots at the property, and ending the nights on a high were cherished moments spent together.
A visit to Kasauli is best savoured with a hot cuppa, and a heart and sky full of sunshine! And every time I venture onto unchartered trails, the hills personify the lines from the famous song by Terry Jacks…
“We had joy, we had fun
We had seasons in the sun
But the hills that we climbed
Were just seasons out of time….”
So here’s to a pocket full of sunshine & promise of the hills, I hope y’all have a splendid year ahead!
Nice to read your blog. It is the best one. Thanks for sharing the details about the holiday home. Planning to visit India next year 2022.

The Glenview Resort looks amazing, especially the Sky Deck! This sounds like a truly relaxing getaway and I love how green the hills in Kasauli are. In addition to hiking, I would also love to visit the town center and see the market and church there.
Oh yes, if itâs your first visit itâs worth exploring the town đ

Kasauli really looks magical and scenic through your photos. Your stay at Glenview Resort looks amazing with view of mountains and nature all around. I would spend many hours at sky deck as it has amazing view. Also good to know you reach Kausauli from Chandigarh with a blink of eye. I never knew that it is so close from this city.
Oh yes, itâs very quick đ My fav spot too was the deck!
Who doesn’t love mountains and that fresh mountain air!
I’d be finding all the trails! It all looks so lovely!
After reading your post and how beautifully described this place I had immediately goes to my Google Maps, searched and voila, pinned Kasauli as my ‘i want to visit’ place. The whole property is breathtaking! I can imagine the glorious sun greeting you a good morning every single day đ

Kasauli is truly magical. It seems to be a perfect place for holidays, especially if you stay in Glenview Resort. The views are breathtaking. And rooms so spacious. I would love to visit this place.
What a beautiful place! I had to google where it was, it was so pretty. The view from your balcony is just so amazing. These kind of resorts are the best way to relax totally and enjoy vacation. Everything is there on the same property. Also loved your room. Looks spacious and comfortable. Love it!
Wow! What a beautiful view! This is my ideal breakfast spot and would love to visit in the future. The room is huge and spacious. The perfect way to relax and feel free after being quarantined at home for so long.
I love the hills. But haven’t been to Kasauli as yet. I can also clock in 10k steps quite easily, now will aim for 20k for more trekking in beautiful places like this one.
Forget the landscape! I want to stay in this guest house! What a view to wake up to every morning! It is my kinda getaway, mountains, nature, peace and quiet and total relaxation. I never even heard of Kasauli, now I am wanting to go (this is what happens when I see something/somewhere amazing after a year of this stupid Covid and travel bans!). Beautiful post and I so hope I can visit this part of India.
haha! So true Danik, I mean I’ve been reading all these blogs and wondering what travel post Covid would look like! There’s lots to explore in India đ
This looks like the kind of place you can just relax, do nothing and appreciate the outdoors. We haven’t heard of it before and are surprised at how much there is to see in India. We’d definitely love to hike those hills of Kasauli.
This place looks like the perfect getaway for a weekend of hiking and relaxing in nature. I had never heard of Kasauli until now but I’d like to go. It seems that India is much more diverse in landscapes than I had thought.
I haven’t ever heard of Kasauli until this article. It’s always nice to travel somewhere that just makes you feel like you’re in middle of nowhere. This helps you just to be able to breathe and really think. Its really refreshing. It seems like there is a lot to do there. Very beautiful view too!
Oh yes, weekend getaways are so refreshing, India has a bounty of such scenic places, which are like you said ‘off-the-beaten track’..
After I had googled where Kasauli is, I’m amazed it’s in India. From the way you describe it and what I can see from your pictures, it has something very central European to it. The views are amazing and I can imagine spending a couple of relaxing days there.
Absolutely, lot of hidden destinations in India with varied landscapes. The north-east, Ladakh, Andamans are equally riveting..
I have just lately found a love for hiking and this place looks amazing! Thanks for sharing!
Very beautiful! The accommodations look amazing too! We loved the quiet tranquil portions of India, it was a nice break from the craziness of the cities.
So true! The quieter places always make me want to come back đ
This place looks peaceful and very different from my impression of India as a super busy and bustling place. Shows the importance of not just sticking to the major cities when visiting a country.
I’d agree, going beyond the regular/popular places when travelling is so rewarding.
Wow the views from your accommodation is my idea of heaven. I would love to hike around there.
